The nearby Ahjumawi Springs State Park is magnificent, and the only state park in the country ONLY accessible by boat! An exceptional landscape of lava flows, aqua bays and primeval beauty, the park is a wilderness area with extremely rugged lava rock—visitors should come prepared. The park holds a deep history filled with ancient trails and sites used for trapping, fishing, ceremony, and other cultural necessities of the people who still walk this land, who still speak the language of this place. The public may use this land for hiking and camping. Planning, knowledge, and respect should go into day trips in the park by kayak, canoe, or other non-powered watercraft.
